The Mother of the Sea

Illustrations and frontpage for a children's book (BA project).

2014

My bachelor project was based upon an old Greenlandic myth about Mother Nature, named "the Mother of the Sea".

It tells the story of the inuit Misuak and his people who are starving and struggling to survive the tough life on the ice. But for a long time they have catched more fish than they could eat and all of a sudden the fish in the sea are gone.

The inuits believe they are being punished by the nature. Misuak has to travel to the bottom of the sea to meet the goddess, in hope to find out why all the animals have disappeared.

This is one out of many versions of the ancient Greenlandic tale.
